Bluecrop is often the first of the three to ripen, kicking off the blueberry season. It’s considered the gold standard for good reason—reliable yields, excellent flavor, and strong cold hardiness. The berries are medium to large with a balanced, classic blueberry taste, and the plants are easy to grow, even for beginners.

🫐 Chandler – Mid-Season with Giant Berries
Chandler comes in season after Bluecrop and is best known for its extra-large berries, some of the biggest you’ll find on a blueberry plant. Instead of ripening all at once, Chandler produces over an extended period, giving you steady harvests of sweet, mild-flavored berries.

🫐 Jersey – Late Season Workhorse
Jersey ripens last, helping stretch your harvest well into late summer. It’s a vigorous, long-lived variety with heavy yields and dependable performance. The berries are medium-sized with good flavor and are great for fresh eating, freezing, and preserving.

Cultivation Tips

Soil requirements: Blueberries require acidic soil with a pH of 4.5–5.5. Well-drained soil rich in organic matter is essential. Raised beds or containers work well if native soil isn’t acidic. Add peat moss and acidic fertilizer to the soil to help them thrive.

Sunlight: Full sun (6–8+ hours per day) for best fruit size and sweetness.

Watering: Blueberries have shallow roots and need consistent moisture. Water regularly, especially during flowering and fruiting—mulching helps retain moisture.

Harvesting: Berries are ready when fully blue and come off easily with a gentle tug. Harvest every few days as berries ripen.
